The Fun Day this year is on Sunday the 19th of August
2012 and will follow
the tried, tested and "Fun" formula. That of course means that the sun
will be splitting the pavements and the only wetness
involved will be from the canal from during the Cardboard Boat Race!
The venue for this great event is the canal basin in Linlithgow and the
immediate surroundings. Across in Learmonth Gardens are a variety of
stalls of various local and national charities, the Art Club
also have their exhibition of work, and especially for the younger
visitors there is a Punch and Judy show along with face painting. Also
entertaining are the local players from the Linlithgow Folk Festival
Association.
There are canal short boat trips available throughout most of the
afternoon, along with a free ferry taking visitors from one side of the
basin to the other. There will also be a demonstration of Water Safety
from International Rescue who also provide safety cover for us
throughout the afternoon.
Throughout the afternoon there are light refreshments available in the
Tea Room along with the BBQ. There is also an ice cream seller on the
Learmonth Gardens side, and ice creams and soft drinks are also on sale
beside the Tea Room.
The main event of the afternoon and the highlight of the afternoon is
the Cardboard Boat Race. This is run over a course which varies from
year to year and is kept secret until just before the race starts, just
to make sure no one has been practising! The hoped for outcome is that
boats and crews sink in spectacular fashion! It is after all a "Fun
Day"! Participants are always welcome and an entry form and rules are
available for download. Great fun for participants and spectators alike. |
